Probe Called Anti-Truman Plot Continued from Page a plane from the Azores to United States shortly after the war. He said he had been stricken ill and had to stop over in the Azores for a few days.

"He (Vaughan) helped me get on a bucket plane," said Bennett. was but slept on mail bags with the rest of them. There were four other paid and I paid plenty, don't passengers and it wasn't free. on think I didn't'." Testimony at the Senate inquiry into Washigton's "influence industry" indicated Vaughan had written letters of introduction for Bennett and some of his business associates and had helped them to get Europe when plane space was tight. One of the business associates Vaughan aided was John Maragon, the little man of many angles, who is now under investigation for perjury and income tax evasion.

Raps Maragon's Rees Bennett said he didn't know Maragon very well when he hired him to get perfume oils abroad for the Verley firm. He did recall that Maragon-whot once submitted a $9,500 expense account for an European trip in behalf of Verley- -charged "terrific" fees. "But Maragon knows body in Washington," Bennett ladded. Bennett dismissed the smuggling charges made against Maragon as something unworthy of a business executive who is in the highest income tax brackets. His implication was that if Maragon had smuggled in the perfume oils it was without his knowledge.

"Why would I want to smuggle?" asked Bennett. "I'm in the 92 percent bracket; why should I worry about a $2,200 smuggling deal. Like those deep freezers--a couple of thousand dollars don't mean anything to me." J. L. Jensen, 57; Ex-Manufacturer Riverhead, Sept.

Fu- Holiday Death Toll Now Record 479 Continued from Page New York State and seven in nearby New Jersey. None was reported in Brooklyn or in the city. The homecoming automobile traffic reached a peak on major highways leading into the city at 4 p.m. yesterday, when steady streams of cars converged slowly on the city at near bumper- distribution. It began to taper just before 9 p.m., when a hunderstorm broke, bringing new difficulties to the motorists.

Long lines of cars backed up at the New Jersey approaches to the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln and Holland tunnels. Fifty- seven thousand cars crossed the bridge up to 7 p.m. yesterday. Police reported that 800.000 New Yorkers spent Labor Day at Coney Island and 750,000 at the Rockaways, which had 1,400,000 for the holiday week: end-compared with 2,000,000 the same period last year. Cooler weather was responsible for the lesser figure.

However, eGorge Wolpert, executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of the Rockaways, reported that the 1949 Summer season was the Rockaways' biggest ever. For the period from Memorial Day to Labor Day, he said, this Summer "broke all attendance records" with a total of visitors, compared with the previous high of 37,557,700 in 1947. The 44,000,000, he added, spent less money. Jacob Fabricant Services Today Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock. in the Jewish Memorial, Pitkin Ave.
