T. THE BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE. NEW YORK. WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER 20.

1905. A GLEAN SWEEP FOR SENATOR MC CARREN Will Have 21 Votes in the Executive Committee Against Two for His Opponents. HARD BLOW TO JAMES SHEVLIN. Dooley District Carried by Butler. Byrnes and Meany Cut Down Majorities.

McCarren made an almost clean sweep at the Democratic primaries in Brooklyn yesterday. He not only retained his hold on the districts that were already under his control, but he also wrested two districts away from his opponents. Senator McCarren was victorious in thirteen of the fifteen Assembly districts which contests took place. In the other two districts the results were surprisingly close. One of the districts which Senator McCarren carried is the Twelfth.

This was one of the three districts which were held by James Shevlin. The victory for McCarren in the Twelfth District, the friends of the latter say, means the extinction of Mr. Shevlin as factor in state politics. The Twelfth Disa trict is one of the three districts which make up the Senate district which Mr. Shevlin represents in the Democratic State Committee.

Mr. Shevlin up to yesterday controlled the Senate district, through Deputy Water Commissioner Thomas R. Farrell, leader of the Eleventh District, and Register Matthew E. Dooley, leader of the Twelfth. The defeat of Mr.

Dooley gives Senator McCarren control of the Senate district, and will make it possible for McCarren to name Shevlin's successor in the State Committee next year, it his hold on the district is not disturbed in the meantime, and it is hardly likely that it will be, the friends of the county leader say. Coffey in the Same Boat With Shevlin. Ex-Senator Michael J. Coffey finds himself in much the same boat Mr. Shevlin as a result of the primaries yesterday.

Ex-Senator James H. McCabe, who has been fighting Coffey for several years past in the Ninth District, finally succeeded in carrying the district yesterday. The district now goes into the McCarren column. The followers of Senator McCarren say they are not at all surprised at the result of the primaries. They say they had only slight hopes of carrying the Second and districts, which McCarren lost by rather close margins.

'The victory of Michael E. Butler over Register Matthew E. Dooley in the Twelfth District, they say, they expected. Butler's forces had been splendidly organized, they made thorough canvass of the district, held meetings in all parts of the district nightly for the past couple of weeks, and in all other respects conducted an energetic campaign which evidently was too much for the followers of Register Dooley. One of the surprises of the day was the result in the Ninth District.

Here the forces of ex-Senator James H. McCabe and Senator James J. Kehoe, formerly opposed to each other, had combined against ex-Senator Michael J. Coffey. In view of the strength that Kehoe had shown in former contests in the district it had been confidently expected that McCabe would carry the district by a big majority.

As it was, however, he won by only 174. The McCabe men say that Myles McPartland, who deserted Kehoe when the latter went in with McCabe, cut, down the latter's vote considerably. McPartland, who made an independant canvass, polled over 500 votes. John Mulvaney, the Coffey condidate, was second in the race. The McCabe men say their victory yesterday means the retirement of Coffey from politics in the Ninth district.

A Kehoe man is to be sent to the Assembly from the district to succeed Assemblyman Byrne, a Coffey man. McCabe will name an Alderman to succeed Dr. Andrew M. Gillen, who has served two terms, but has announced that he will not be a candidate again. Hesterberg Buried Creamer.

Mr. Shevlin received another hard blow the result in the Eighteenth district, where Sheriff Henry Hesterberg and John McCooey buried ex-Sheriff Frank D. Creamer, who made the fight in the Eighteenth for Shevlin. Creamer made no race at all in the Flatbush end of the district controlled by Hesterberg, and in the Twenty-fourth Ward end, controlled by McCooey, the latter beat him two to one. Henry F.

Haggerty defeated John H. Delaney in the Tenth district by a majority of nearly 1,000. Tax Commissioner James B. Bouck won out against Robert F. Gillin in the Fourth district by 396 votes.

Under Sheriff John Morrisey Gray's (the Eighth) was the banner McCarren district. His majority over his opponent, Frank W. Foley, was in the neighborhood of 2,000. Senator McCarren had no trouble in defeating his opponent, James Murray, his home district, Fourteenth, and in the then adjoining district, the Thirteenth, Alderman Owen J. Murphy, the present leader, won easily.

Assistant Public Works Commissioner James S. Regan had a decisive victory over his opponent, Patrick F. Lynch, in the Sixteenth district. The result in the Seventeenth was the closest of any, Henry F. Cochrane, the McCarren leader, winning out by 35 votes after a spirited contest.

His opponent was Deputy County Clerk Joseph P. Donnelly who carried the district last year for McCarren, but was turned down for executive committee member because McCarren's friends in the Seventeenth said they discovered him flirting with Tammany Hall. Mr. Cochrane had the support of the followers of former Bridge Commissioner John L. Shea in his fight against Donnelly, In the Nineteenth, Twentieth and Twentyfirst districts, Senator Conrad Hasenflug, Deputy County Clerk Denis Winter and James P.

Sinnott had no difficulty in defeating their opponents, Edward Glinnen, Otto Wicke and Magistrate Henry J. Furlong. An analysis of the vote cast at the primaries yesterday shows that, while the opponents of 'Senator McCarren cast a bigger vote than they did a year ago, the friends of also made big gains. Substantial McCarren gains were made in the Second, Fourth, Eleventh, Twelfth, and Eighteenth districts. The most notable of these were in the Second and Eleventh districts.

Where Judge John J. Walsh, the present leader of the Second carried his district a year ago by a majority of nearly 1,000 against Edward J. Meany, the McCarren man, his majority yesterday was only 351. In the Eleventh District, Deputy Water Commissioner Thomas R. Farrell's majority of 700 EL year ago was cut down to a couple of hundred by Thomas F.

Byrnes. ba. The anti-McCarren men made gains in the Fourth and Tenth districts particularly. Robert F. Gillin increased his vote of 966 against Tax Commissioner Bouck, a year ago, to 1,262 yesterday.

John H. Delaney doubled his vote of a year ago In the Tenth District. The anti- men made gains, too, in the Thirteenth, Nineteenth, Twentieth and Twenty-first districts.
