Leslie Allen la well-known actor, she schooled in the reading of Shakespearean verse as a child, land made her stage debut as schoolgirl in 1882 in "Esmeralda" at the old Madison Square Garden Theater. From that time until 1893 she played Shakespearean and other classic heroines, includling Desdemona, Cordelia John and Juliet, and appeared with McCullough, Thomas Salvini and Joseph Jefferson. Later she became leading, lady of Charles Frohman's Empire Theater Company and starred in 1898 in "The Christian," by Hall Caine, in which she scored a notable success.

Finley, veteran New York newspaperman, who had served as city editor of the New York Post and assistant city editor of the New York Journal, died yesterday in Triboro Hospital, Jamaica, after a long illness. He was 51. A native of New Haven, Mr. Finley worked there as a reportfor the Register and Journal Courier early in life. In World War I he served with the Army Medical Corps.

On his return to this country, he again worked as a reporter in New Haven and then went to Syracuse. For while, too, he was Illinois State manager of International Service. Returning to this city in 1925 he went to work for the New York Journal where he was as sistant city editor for many vears. Later he became editor of the New York Post. and eventually its city editor.

He left the Post during World War II to do civilian naval intelligence work in the 3d Naval; District headquarters. Later he did publicity work in Mayor Dwyer's campaign for Mayor. He is survived by a son, John daughter. Barbara Finley; a brother, George W. Finley, who is an assistant editor of the King Features Syndicate, and a sister.
