Remember, it's a friendly gathering, not formal, so be your natural self, and when you two have left after saying your good-byes, you can be sure you did the right thing--and they'll be thinking that their son has made a wise choice in his dating life.

(Q.) Dear Nancy--Just about a month ago, I broke up (for the third and last time) with the boy I'd been dating for over a year. I know it would be hard getting back into cir. culation after being "his girl" for so long, but I never expected that all my friends and his would believe I still liked him. They tease me constantly, mention his name every chance they get, and make my days miserable. How can I convince them--and him, too -that this time it really is all over? (A.) Your breakups with him haven't been final before, and they probably think this is just another false alarm.

Time will have to prove that this time you mean what you say, and.to help it along, don't fly into a rage when the crowd begins the ribbing routine--pass it off with a laugh, and promise "Wait and see." In a few weeks, they'll know you weren't just fooling, and if the lad himself has any notions that it isn't serious, he'll discover he's wrong. It won't be too long before those same boys who wouldn't believe you at first are taking your word and calling for Saturday nights--so keep your temper and patience -and prove you're not changing your mind again.
