Manhattan. Of the 250 songs for which Mr. Speaks wrote the music. "Mandalay" was by far the most successful, selling more than 1,000.000 copies. Born in Ohio, Mr.

Jerome's parish, Newkirk and Nostrand well- priest of the Brooklyn R. C. Diocese, died Thursday night in St. Mary's Hospital. He had been in the hospital since Tuesday and had undergone an operation.

Monsignor Lynch was born in St. Patrick's parish on Willoughby 'Ave. and had been a priest for 56 years. In 1942 he celebrated the golden jubilee of his ordination, offering a solemn high mass of Thanksgivting at midnight on the day of anniversary. He had been at then for 41 years.

A graduate of St. John's College in 1887, he studied at the North American College in Rome and was ordained in the Holy City on July 25, 1892. He served as an assistant in St. Charls Borromeo's, St. Augustine's and St.

John the Evangelist parishes before he was appointed to establish the parish St. Jerome on May 1, 1901. When Monsignor Lynch came to the sparsely settled Vanderveer Park section of Flatbush to establish St. Jerome's, the territory, consisted of green an occasional house dotting the landscape. From a handful of Catholic families he built the parish into a -free community of church, school.

Shields organized and conducted many community fund-raising campaigns and was particularly interested in Caledonian Hospital. During World War I he received a citation for outstanding work in Liberty Loan drives. He was recently associated with the Ebinger Baking Company, and formerly had been with the Brooklyn Union Gas Company. He was at one time Eastern District manager of The Thor Electric Washing Machine Company. Surviving are his sister, Mrs.

John Savarese; two nieces and a nephew. Mrs. M'Menomey, 50 Years in oBro A solemn high requiem mass for Mrs. Bridget McMenomey of 342 68th who died Wednesday, will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Angels R.

C. Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mrs. McMenomey, widow of Philip, had been a resident of Brooklyn for 50 years, living for the past 25 in the Bay Ridge section.

She was formerly a parishioner of St. James Pro-Cathedral. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Michael McKearney, Mrs. Thomas Woods, Mrs.

In the early days of St. Jerome's parish, pending construetion of a church building, temporary quarters were set up in the Cortelyou Club, Bedford Ave. and Avenue D. The years that followed were a continual strug. gle.

Masses were celebrated in the basement of the new church building for eight years before formal dedication of the Gothic edifice on Dec. 5. 1909. Surviving is a brother, Dr. Eugene Lynch.
