An Italian military tribunal convicted Graziani in May, 1950, of treason charges and sentenced him to 19 years in prison, but his sentence was cut by amnesties to only 14 months. He was taken into custody in 1945 and charged with collaborating with Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini in northern Italy after the Italians' surrender to the Allies. Conflicting accounts of an alleged pier accident -aired during trial of a $300,000 damage suit--today were turned over to the District Attorney's office for closer scrutiny and possible perjury action. per The suit was brought in Brooklyn Supreme Court by a 39-year-old South Brooklyn waterfront worker who charged he suffered brain injuries after a fall from a pier at the foot of Pierrepont St. on Jan.

23, 1950. The pier worker, Anthony Mastriano, of 133 Kane married and the father of five children, claimed he made $160 a week the year of the accident. However, he did not testify at the trial before Justice George A. Arkwright. A tion by Frank Mattarese, an alleged "eye witness," was read into the record during the trial.

After the trial had proceeded for five days, George J. Conway, attorney for the New York Dock defendant in the action, described the plaintiff's case as the most "fraudulent" he had ever heard. Conway pointed out to the court that Mastriano and Mattarese were at "complete odds as to how the alleged accident was supposed to have happened." The attorney asked for a directed verdict in favor of his client, and then requested that minutes of the trial be handed over to the District Attorney. Justice Arkwright granted both motions. and the westerly side of Brighton 3d St. Opposition General Actually, opposition to the assessments is belleved to be just as stiff in Coney Island and Sea Gate where the assessments have been pegged at a somewhat lower figure. Mr. Larkin claimed that none of the members of the Brighton-Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce benefited in any way from the millions of people who visit the nearby beaches every year, Members of the organization he represents are home-owners and local businessmen who have neither restaurants nor amusement centers that cater to Summer visitors to the area, Mr. Larkin said.

He said Brighton Beach owners would be willing to pay perhaps $150 to $200 each per lot towards the cost of the storm water sewers but nothing for the "interceptor sewers." Originally, the Board of As. recommended ments of $1,183 per lot in the Brighton Beach area. Followling protests, however, the as(sessors, headed by Charles H. Kriger of Brooklyn, lowered the assessments to $470 for each lot. Thursday the Board of Estiof, mate will hold a public hearing on the Board of Assessors' proposal and then make its own decision on the apportionment of cost of the sewers.
