Thirty delegates from local National Guard organizations left this afternoon at 3 o'clock for the state capital to attend the convention. The Thirteenth Regiment sent a large delegation, something which it has not done for years; but this year's convention Is conceded by all to be of the utmost Importance, coming as it does at the commencement of a legislative session during which will be introduced drafts for a new military code. The meeting to-night will be for the purpose of organizing only and will be brief. The real work of the convention commences to-morrow morning at 10 night when the Twelfth Assembly Dis tlct Republican Club held its annual en of Johnnie Carroll.

Their work was splendid, in fact the boys from Twelfth Street never showed up any better In an exhibition drill than they did last night. Other clubs have given minstrel shows successfully or vaudeville performances of great merit, but it remained for the Calderites to give a programme comprising both minstrel and vaudeville features and make the affair one of the chief successes of the interests of the guard in the Legis lature.

The association has a code of its own Although the members of the St. Peter's Catholic Library Association of Warren and Hicks streets denied emphatically, for publication, that any political influence was exerted in their election of officers last night, still the election was generally looked upon as a test of strength between the Dunne and Kane factions in the Third Assembly Disirict. It was reported that Thomas L. McElroy, who Is employed as stenographer to Inspector Dillon of the Police Department, was receiving tho backing of James Dunne, superintendent of sewers and leader of the Independent forces, while Joseph B. Moy-lan.

who is a clerk in tho Finance Department of the city, was currently said, to have the hearty support of James Kane, the McCarren leader of the district. Both men, however, are members of the samo organization, the Sixth Ward Democratic Club, and both denied trying to bring differences of politics into tho affairs of a Catholic society. However the rumor arose, it certainly caused unprecedented interest in the election. Dels were freely mado by tho adherents of both sides and it was openly charged that political influence of strongest kind was brought to bear oa policemen and other municipal employes by the ardent champions of the two candidates. Tho election last, night was held in tha billiard room of the largo building occupied by the club, on Warren street, and despite the severe storm, a large crowd was present.

Some members who had formerly lived in the ward, but had later moved away, tame back and paid dues that were two and three years la arrears iu order to be qualified to vote. One man came in from Union Course, and others from uptown In Manhattan. The treasurer waa glad that the feeling raa so high, for he collected 125 in back dues from slow-paying members. As soon as a member entered the door he was besieged by workers of each sld i. The "regulars," who wore lu office, headed their ticket with tho following notice: "RIGHT THE WRONG done our president In newspaper article of February 3, and vote tho regular ticket." There followed a sample ballot, with the name of Thomas McKlroy, who had served two terms as president, at the top.

The polls opened at 6 o'clock and closed at 111. As soon as tellers had retired lo the parlor to count the ballots, the eager adherents of the "regulars" and tho "opposition" began to dispute over tho size of the vote. When arguments would no further go, bets were resorted to, and the odds wore driven from 15 to 20 to .2 to 1 on McElroy. After about an hour, all tho available rash was apparently tied up, for tho betting slopped, and wonder at, the. long session of the tellers began to bo manifested.

Cheers were given for each of the candidates, and parodies oa popular songs were sung. Over one hundred men waited to hear the result. P. Ryan began playing the harmonica, and soon the strain of tho conflict was forgotten. The rival factions mingled and politics was left out "as It ought to be," said one of the officers.

At 12:05 o'clock, after moro than two hours of waiting, tho tellers came In to announce tho result. One hundred and slxty-elgbt voles were cast, of which McElroy rocelved 85 and Moylan 79, with 4 defective ballots. The vote on tho other men on the tickets followed which it will introduce in the Senate and L. Mahon, followed by Mr. and Mrs.

P. H. Quinn, and Representative J. J. Fitzgerald, accompanied by Miss Quinn.

The ballroom was handsomely decorated for the occasion with the national flag and bunting, and dancing was enjoyed up to an early hour this morning. The committee of arrangements comprised William La Liberte, chairman; James Hawkins, treasurer; J. Garrahan, secretary; W. J. Atkinson, C.

February 6 Addie A. Terrell, through her attorney, former District Attorney Livingston Smith, has commenced an action against ber sisters, Anna L. Rowland and Bertha G. Morris, to cancel two deeds to Port Jefferson real property, alleging fraud. The property is valued at $4,000, according to the papers in the suit filed here.

The complaint shows that William Fordham, father of the plaintiff and defendants, on April 29 and 30, 1907, made two deeds giving to defendants the property in question. He died on June 11 without a will, leaving surviving the three women named and no other heirs. The plaintiff alleges her father was 84 years old; was sick, weak and feeble in body and mind, and had suffered from the year in the entertainment line. The grand march was led by the pres- 1 ident of the club, William J. Maxwell with Mrs.

The dancing continued until an early morning hour. Among of a trolley track from Second avenue to the Thirty-ninth Street Ferry terminal, said that he believed that the B. R. T. must have a grudge against the Municipal Ferry, as the railroad apparently had made no real effort to grant the much needed service.

The postal service was severely criti-cisd by F. S. Cocheu. He said that a few days ago, while in the City of Philadelphia, he had occasion to write a letter to his family, informing them that it would be impossible for him to arrive on the train thatf'he expected to. He sent it by special delivery and did not leave the city for New York until four hours later.

On arriving at his home in Bay Ridge, he found that the letter had not been delivered, although it had been sent on hours before he had started. Ho telephoned to the city post office and made Inquiries concerning it, and found that it had just arrived. Two hours after he received the letter. The matter was turned over to the secretary, who was Instructed to write to the Postal Department in Washington, informing them of this uncalled-for delay. A communication requesting the board to write to the representative of the district in Congress, urging him to do all in his power to create a sentiment in favor of the building of more battleships in the Brooklyn Navy Yard was unanimously Indorsed.

The board also adopted resolutions favoring the construction of the Broadway-Lafayette avenue subwa" route. One of the members stated that since the old gas lamps had been replaced by the mantel lights, the section was without street signs. They were fastened to the old posts and were carted away at the time the new lights were installed. The matter was referred to the commltteo on streets. He then introduced Lawyer Henry A. Powell, who expressed his views regarding present methods of banking. They claim that prior to 1875 when the enlistment term was seven years, all of the regiments wero small, and that when this period was reduced to five years, a marked increase in the number of enlistments was discernible. Arguing from analogy they aver that a further reduction In the enlistment period from five to three years will result in an in crease in enlistments. And this contention seems to be borne out by the experience of tha guard.
