Emerald Ball at the Waldorf-Astoria a Notable Brooklyn Event. The decorations of the ballroom were beautiful in their simplicity. Trellised A great part of this success is due, no doubt, to Arthur J. O'Keeffe. the president of the society, who has a remarkably good head for business, and a readiness and adaptability that serves him well In promoting social functions.

He was well assisted by strong committees, and the absence of Jealousy or friction wag a fine feature of the ball. there was scarce room for the great mass of people who had come to enjoy themselves. Ever since the Emerald people have been going to the Waldorf-Astoria the transportation problem has been a serious one. It's a far cry from the Park Slope or the Bedford section to Fifth avenue in Manhattan. The boxes were festooned in the same way a graceful tribute to the name of the society. One of the notable features of the occasion was the conspicuous part that young men took in the active management.

In the old times, when the Emerald gave its annual entertainments in the Academy In Montague street, a pleasant characteristic was the presence of men and women well on in years who secured seats in the balcony or gallery, and enjoyed the show below as much as those who were partici The grand march was scheduled for 10:20, but It was a little later when the start was made. President O'Keeffe and Mrs. O'Keeffe led the march. They were followed by other active workers in the cause. Not far from the president were the officers from the Navy Yard, in uniform, and the combination of gold lace and epaulettes served to relieve the gen 1 the subway came along to relieve the sit- uation.

Shannon's Twenty-thlru Kegiment Band furnished the music for the concert that preceded the ball, and also the dance music for the dance Itself. The concert programme was as follows: Overture. The dancers generally desertod the balroom when the supper announcement was made, and the musicians believing the night labor done, were about to pack up their Instruments pating in it.

The move to Manhattan discouraged these staid citizens, who had but little sympathy with the change to more ambitious and luxurious quarters. They had the direction of the and it must be said that they were competent, diljgent and efficient.
