J. Jennings, while a member of the New York Produce Exchange, paid $26 for a barrel of flour, the -highest price known to have been paid. It came about in this way The first barrel of flour, the new crop wheat of J880, was sown November 24, 1S79, and cut April 10, 1880, on the plantation of John L. Lanemore, of Lee County, thus maturing In 4V, months. It was donated by him' to the ladies of Calvary Episcopal Church' of Amerieus.

Mr. Dillman began In a small way at Ozone Park only fifteen months ago. Now he employs many fine delivery wagons and has purchased a plot some 60 by 200, feet on Poplar street and Union place, near Jamaica avenue, on which he has erected a fine bakery building. Piatt, Maresi Company. The Maresi confectioners and caterers, Is one of the largest concerns of the Itlnd in Greater New York. It has five stores or branches In both Boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan, with a main office, at 30 Clinton Brooklyn, and brancheL' at 76 Seventh avenue and 719 Sixth avenue, Brooklyn; also at 589 Madison avenue and 320 Columbus avenue, Manhattan. This concern takeB complete charge of. all the details connected with weddings, receptions, banquets, card parties, furnishing not only the menus, but all the accessories such as table awnings, chairs, carl tables, etc.

E. J. Jennings' J. Jennings was one of the pioneer bakers of Brooklyn. His -sign reads follows: "I knead dough; you need bread." He conducted the largest bread, cake and cracker bakery business in Ephraim J.

Home-Made Bread, John J. Shea, proprietor of Shea's Home Made but better known as the "Home Made Bread Man" of Brooklyn, is, as most Brooklynltes will admit, one of most successful men In the baking business to-day. In March, 1903, his first experience as a baker was with a push-cart delivery.

However, after long and tedious months of hard labor, he now feels that the loaf of bread which he offers to the public is a superior product of the baking art. Mr. Shea states that the home made bTead business has become a branch of the baking industry; wnich has come to Stay. It revolutionized the bread baking business even before the pure food law was enacted. Mr.

Shea's main ofBces are at Nos. 628 and 630 DeKalb avenue, Brooklyn, with branches on Staten Island, Manhattan, Jersey City and Newark, N. J. He has at present twonty-five wagons in Brooklyn, which deliver to all parts of Brooklyn. He assures everybody of prompt attention and excellent service.

He caters only to family trade. His shops are always open for Inspection, and he invites the'public to visit them at any time. H- A. C. Dahl Son.

The well-known Arm of 'H. A. C. Dahl Son was founded in 1866 by H. A.

C. Dahl, who at that time Introduced the manufacture of Swedish knackebrod (brittle bread) In this country. In 1880 Mr. Dahl discovered and introduced "Dahl's Dyspepsia Cakes" (a remedy without drugs), and in 1893 he introduced the "Honest Whole Wheat Bread." the true "staff of life." In addition to Ihcse the firm now produces many other kinds of health foods. In 1901 Ceorge W.

Dahl became a member of the firm. Health breads have always been the specialty of the firm, and its goods are not only sold to all parts of the United States In considerable quantities, but are exported to Europe. It has a ven: tllated bakery, with many modern machines, Insuring clean and wholesome bread. H. A.

C. Dahl represented the Third Ward in the last board of supervisors of Kings County, being the first Swede to be elected to public ofllec In Brooklyn. When war was declared with Spain in 1898 this firm was well represented, as four of the men. aB well as George W. Dahl, served with the Fourteenth Regiment, -New Volunteers, throughout the war.

Wingfleld Taylor Co. This well-known baking concern has a very plant at Kent avenue and South Fourth street. It makes a specialty of American and French bread aw? bakery delicacies. Its goods are known not only In the section in which its bakery Ie located, but arj! sold all over Brooklyn. Expert bakers are employed in each department.

The plant. Is well lighted and well -ventilated, and is kept particularly free from dust and dirt, and great'eare is to keep all of the bakery products pure and fri-ali. Messrs. Wingnelfl Taylor have ear-h had many years 'of experience in. their trade, and have been in business for forty years.
