July 3 A successful effort was made last week by the hotels at this resort to procure a more satisfactory order of things in regard to liquor licenses.

Owing to the complaints of certain cottagers who wished to stop all objectionable features, including the retail selling of liquor and gambling, last season at the Pier was conducted on the so-called "speak-easy" principle. Many of the hotels were refused licenses and their efforts to please their patronage led them to make frequent violations of the strict ordinances which had been passed. Last week the subject was taken up and it was decided to grant a certain number of licenses to clubs which had been formed for the purpose of providing the members with drinks. Most of these clubs are hotels, and a book Is to be kept for the signature of all guests desiring to become members.
