on 951 8 R. lar $250,000 Increase To Labor Dept. Urged in Senate Washington, July 7 (U.R) Senator John Sherman Cooper today urged restoration of $250,000 to the Labor Depart ment money bill to permit proper enforcement of the wage-hour laws. The Kentucky Republican made the plea as the Senate took up a $2,008,435,761 appro priation bill to finance the Labor Department and the new Department of Health, Educa tion and Welfare in the 19o4 fiscal year which began last Wednesday. Cooper proposed a $230,000 increase In funds earmarked for the solicitor of the Labor Department, who handles court prosecution of wage-hour violations.

The House and Senate Appropriations Committee recommended $1330,000 for the solicitor's office. The bill, which also carries funds for the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Railroad Retire ment Board and the National Mediation Board, was 300 larger than the version approved by the House.
