The baby had been rescued by Mrs. Alvino's fourth child, Richard, 23, a longshoreman. Mrs.

Alvlno's boxband, also a longshoreman, had left for work when the explosion occurred. Another victim of the explo sion was Mrs. Josephine Greco, 34, of 0515 Avenue who was shopping in the ground-floor delicatessen at the time of the explosion. She suffered a back injury. Investigators said the blast originated in the basement of the two-story building which houses a delicatessen and an In terior decorator's shop on the ground floor and two apartments above.

Cause of the blast was still undetermined but a fire marshal said it possibly was set off when the flame of the building oil burner ignited accumulated gas in the basement. Ten pieces of fire equipment were rushed to the blaze, which quickly went to two alarms. Smoke and flames enveloped the front of the commercial-residential structure, billowing upward from the basement. No estimate of the damage was Immediately available. Mr.
