August 9 Several of the young member! of the summer colony here and alone the North Shore were Invited to a small dance at the Nassau Country Club, on Monday evening, which was given by Mrs. George P. Black of New York, who is spending the summer at the William L. Swan house, at Oyster Bay. Last year the Blacks summered at the W.

Crittenden Adams house, In the Glen Cove colony, and Miss Elizabeth Black and Palmer Black made many friends there. The guests at the dance on Monday evening were all young people and they had a jolly evening. Among those present were the Misses Althea Olbb, Louise Frank, Elizabeth Klrlin, Cordelia Hepburn, Christina Nichols, Anna Plummer, Suzanne Merrick, Eunice Clapp, Elizabeth Black, Mrs. Edward House, Mr. and Mrs.

I xf ftttrsia tea cw 1 Race Meet and Hunter Show of the Suffolk Hunt Club, at Water Mill, yesterday, attracted a large number of the members of the cottage colony and to night the annual big social event of the summer takes place the costume ball at the Meadow Club for the benefit of the Southampton Hospital. Everyone is looking forward to a annual Invitation tennis tournament, which will take place at the Meadow Club during all of next week. This even always attracts throngs to Southampton. One of the largest social events of the week will be the dance to be given by Mrs. Dr Lancey Xlcoll for her daughter.

Guests of the Prospect have organized and enjoyed searchlight parties this week, these taking the place of moonlight parties. By going 'to the Country Club, which Is on a high hill, the excellent searchlight display connected with the war maneuvers at Fort Wright and Fort Terry has been plainly visible from the clubhouse veranda and has proved vry interesting. Theoretically, the searchlight wero put out of business early In the game, but actually they had as many Uvea aa the famous cat. and cam back as readily, as can be attested at this place, even If It Is msny mile distant from the scene of the war operations.
