Just at the close of a dinner last night, given at the Hotel St. George, Mr. and Mrs.

Stanley S. Tumbridge being its host and hostess, there were passed around among the guests dance orders for the large dance under the same roof to which the party were going. It was innocently remarked that the orders might as well be filled out then. The guests received them, opened them and in a moment excitement followed. For, pasted inside each order were the cards of Miss Evelyn Kettles and Harry Parmele of Stater Island, two of the twenty-one at the dinner.

News of an engagement never came a more complete surprise. The ingenious as method of announcing proved a big dramatic success. One of the prettiest and most prominent of the younger Brooklyn girls of the day has just announced her engagement. This is Miss Grace Douglas Ruwe of 250 Garfield place, who, a year ago, suddenly found herself one of the important figures of social life and on more committees of dance management than any other girl of the sets. Miss Ruwe is to marry Ar-! Miss Hazel Heffley to Marry Joseph Leslie White--An Announcement Luncheon Yesterday. At a luncheon given by the bride-to-be, yesterday afternoon, at her home, 678 St. Mark's avenue, Miss Hazel Heffley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman P.

Heffley, announced her engagement to Joseph Leslie White. Mr. White is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L.

White of 1254 Dean street. His father heads one of the important insurance concerns over in Manhattan, and as "Joe White" is one of the best liked men in Brooklyn. As a youngster's man he was among the leading powers in the great amateur dramatic societies this side of the East River a generation ago. Lawrence Cameron Hull, Jr. In St. Ann's Church, last night, at 8:30 o'clock, took place the marriage of Miss Margaret Simmons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldemar M.

Simmons of 167 Joralemon street and Lawrence Cameron Hull, of Brooklyn, a son of Lawrence Cameron Hull of Detroit, well known school man. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Reese F. Alsop, St.

Ann's rector emeritus. Miss Simmons, who wore white satin and brocade, was attended by her sister, Miss Kate Cameron Simmons, maid of honor; Miss Isabel Simmons, another sister; Miss Grace Hull of Detroit, Mr. Hull's sister; Miss Ethel Simmons Cameron, a cousin of the bride, and Miss Louise Cuyler Buchanan, bridesmaids.
