and Sunday the Chris- Individual Chess Honors Clinched By Max Levine Plant Head Defeated Stephens in Winning Nine Straight Matches By HERMANN HELMS In addition to qualifying for a place in the final, which will start at the Manhattan Chess Club tomorrow night, Max D. Levine, one of the Brooklyn representatives in Group of the National amateur championship, carried off individual honors. In nine games played, Levine did not lose one. Neither did he permit any of his rivals to draw. Consequently, he, alone of all the 34 competing, emerged with an unmarred record of nine straight victories.

This achievement was fittingly clinched when he defeated La Walter Stephens, runner-up in that section, in the last round. It was a battle royal in which the latter's resignation came only after 84 moves. The third player to qualify from Section was F. H. Squire also of Brooklyn.

Sol Rubinow, City College champion; Leon Neidich, and J. S. Battell earned their places in Group B. which completed its schedule. The preliminaries will end at the Manhattan C.

Yale Plans Hockey Under Coach Murdoch New Haven. Nov. 18-- Ogden D. Miller, director of athletics at Yale, announced today that plans have been formed for the continuation of the hockey program at the university, and an attempt is being made to schedule games for a varsity team. The program, however, will be a modified one with the stress being placed on intramural competition, and the varsity will be chosen from members of the navy and civilian colleges entered in the league.

Trainees at the three colleges taken over by the army will not be eligible for, varsity service, although they take part in the intramural loop. Coach Murray Murdoch has his work out for him, as only one member of his 38-man squad last year will be available. He 18 20- year-old Capt. Archer Harmon Jr. of Concord, defense man.

Pupil to Use Fire Horse Style On the Master When Fort makes its P. S. A. L. basketball on Hamilton, the home floor "against James Madison on Friday afternoon, Dec.

3, pupil will be matching with the master. And its singular that Coach Phil Drucker of the Shore Road quintet was a member of the first basketball team that evere represented James Madison during the 1925-26 season. On that quintet were the Balber brothers. Sonny and Henny: Sam Potter. Joe McNenny, Jack Grossman and Al Aronson.

Jammie Moskowitz came to MadIson after the first year as the court coach, and one of his charges was Drucker, who, because of circumstances this season, will have to junk the professor's system. Because his team is small compared to other squads and is weak defensively, Drucker is going to have his proteges emulate Rhode State's fire horse style of run like blazes for the basket and snare long passes while on the move. In other words, the zone gives way to the man-for-man code for this season, at least. Will Lose Cahill As Hamilton is A new school Drucker is building for the future while preparing for the present. Walter Cahill, a diminutive greyhound, who will be lost by graduation in February, is paired at forward with Gerald Magavero.

When Cahill goes, Al Gazzale will step into his shoes. He is a crack shot and ball handler. Dom Amoscato, another shorty, who is fleet afoot, will team with Geoffrey Bywater, rangy individual, at guard. with Bob Franke, another elongated lad, at center. Most of the replacements are green, and Drucker expects to have them seasoned sufficiently by February so they will be able to step into any breach that arises.

Jack Sheehan, a transfer Xavier High, is lost through ineligibility, Bob Hansen, who towers 6 feet 3 inches, works nicely out of the pivot and is a good shot, but he is green and needs more experience. The same is true of (Leif) Leifson, a 6-foot-4 giant. Other low term replacements from whom Drucker, who previously coached at Franklin K. Lane for four or five years, expects valuable service after they have acquired polish, are Vinnie Sullivan, (Cassy) Caselenova. Leo Romantz, Leroy Eide and Al McCormick.
