spot of the borough was patronized nor only by residents ot Brooklyn, but largely by Manbattanltes. The police kept busy ail day urging many parties of the younger folks to "keep moving," especially where they preferred to sit on the grass. Where benches are occupied no attention Is paid, but when the youths "take to grass" they become careless, the police say, and throw papers and the like upon the greensward. Captain Miles O'Reilly of the Prospect Park station spent a greater part of the afternoon in the park. He was in charge of a squad of police near the music stand, where a crowd numbering 10.000 heard Professor LouIb Conterno's Fourteenth Regiment Band.

In St. Ann'B Church on the Heights, the Right Rev. Dr. S. C.

Partridge, Missionary Bishop of Kyoto. Japan, preached a strong sermon yesterday morning from Exodus 111 r3 "And 'Moses said, I will now turn aside and see this great sight why the bush is not burnt." Special prayers were offered for the recovery of Mayor Gaynor, and the bishop's subject waB especially appropriate at this time. He said: "GoJ selects the man He wants best fitted for His work. We come not to the place by accident; it is the very place God meant for us. Moses was selected by God, because of his knowledge of the map of Egypt, and his willingness to learn more.

Many dull men would have passed by the burning bush without any concern. Not so with Moses, for be said: 'I will now turn aside and see this great sight why the bush is not So learned men the world over to-day are asking the reason why.
