These cakes really came into being years ago when the lady, then a business woman, did her baking for church socials and bazars. Even then the common order was: "We want Mabel's cake." For example, one of the girl members was ten minutes late for a broadcast. She dashed into the studio, exclaiming: "Hello! Gosh, I'm late! Sorry!" and plunked down in the vacant chair and in no time at all was engaged with the others in the lively discussion. Censorship, said Miss de Mars, is left to the good taste of the forum members. Each week five regulars appear and in addition there is a guest. Newton Chin was the guest at the last broadcast.

"In my belief there is a great need for a program of this kind." declared Miss de Mars. "It is quite a revelation to see how these youngsters keep up with important events of the day." Who selects the subject for the forum discussion? Jack does that. "Most of the discussions start as private arguments in school," he said. "We just bring them in here and all of us get going." Actually the forum is what is commonly known in school as "a bull session," where students explore a subject, practically tearing it to shreds.

Lack of formality marks "The Young Idea" program but sometimes the lack of regard for formalities, like getting to the ous matters often leaves Miss de Mars bewildered. Scalp Needs Special Care In Winter Daily Massage And Good Pomade Will Avoid Dryness By PATRICIA LINDSAY 1 WITH EVERY ONE IN A DANCING MOOD for the holidays ahead, here's a smooth crossbar rayon taffeta, one of a group of off-the-shoulder styles in the Junior Shop, at Loser's. Shop Talk for Man Hunters- By SHIELA If you are getting up earlier every morning to do toe-touehing exercises, you might just as well sleep that extra ten minutes because they don't take off any of the effects of chocolate layer cake. Toe-touching may even make you little swaybacked, a teacher from the Dubarry Success School told Abraham Straus' surprised College Board the other day. Feature of the monthly meeting was a trio of experts who explained to the members the right way to correct posture faults, how twist off inches how to apply paint so that it will really stay on and look well.

Speaking of inch-removing exercises the Success School expert revealed that doing figure 8's every morning will knock off inches all over. The figure 8 is not, of course, done on skates-it's a complicated maneuver done with the feet. LYING ON THE FLOOR, the expert demonstrated. You extend arms out flat on the floor, then you pull your feet up and both twist over so that your knees touch your left elbow while your right shoulder remains on the floor. The figure 8 occurs when you swing your knees around to touch your right elbow.

It's easy. The College Board is made up of girls from every college in the metropolitan area and most of them are interested in fashion as a career. While food was being served at the meeting they asked dozens of questions of the junior shop buyer and her assistant. What's in store for us next Spring and Summer was the most asked question. The answer is cottons and more cottons.

Abraham Straus junior shop, with the advice and enthusiastic approval of their College Board, will concentrate on smooth, urbane washables next season. To get back to the Success School experts, the cosmetic artist had the board members Because the body uses more fuel during the cold months to keep warm it is generally believed that the does not get as much nourishment for the hair as during the warm months. This is not true if a woman or girl exercises a good deal-then the blood stream rushes through the body evenly distributing its nourishment. But legion are the woman who do not exercise during the cold weather other than a brief walk to a bus or a shop! Daily massage of the scalp (to stimulate blood circulation) is essential and it helps if a good scalp pomade is used, especially if the hair tends to be dry or if the scalp tends to be dry. Part hair every inch or so, apply the pomade or other lubricant sparingly and then massage firmly with fingers.

Brush hair from the scalp outward with a genuine bristle brush for five minutes afterward. Use Pomade on Ends If hair is exposed to the cold weather (little hats cover only the crown of the head), the ends of hair might also need a little pomade or cream dressing to protect it just as a film of foundation cream protects skin from chapping! Once a month a good hot oil treatment, or a cream treatment with vapor heat applied in a salon does much to keep your hair glossy and lovely looking. The nexer, cream shampoos (which in tubes or jars) seem to be very good for dry hair. No soap is used-the cream works up into a fine lather and then is rinsed off with clear water. Of course, many women still prefer the liquid castile soap shampoos or other prepared liquid soaps.

What is used to keep the hair clean is an individual preference. Hair, well groomed between times, can go three weeks without a shampoo. But a cleansing tonic and fresh cotton is used at least once a week on the scalp. The Menu mentally pitching their eyelash, curlers into their neighborhood trash baskets. "EYELASH CURLERS," she stated, "do nothing but break the lashes." If you insist on having upswept lashes anyway, you can do it by curling the lash upward with mascara and then holding it for a count of ten.

Makeup is no easy job done the way the experts do it. Between the freshly- washed face and the finished product came, another cleanser, freshener, antichap lotion, cream base, soupcon of rouge, a touch of eyeshadow, powder, lipstick applied with a brush and finally a bit of skin freshener to set the job. When the applications were completed the effect was quite uncosmeticy. You would never suspect there were more than a half-dozen products on the face. The experts final word to the College Board was about looking too collegiate.

It can mean no job in the fashion world, they stressed. Mr. and Mrs. John David Norseen of Trenton. N.
