At the evening pageant a dozen of the old volunteer fire-fighters were In line. In the uniforms of bygone days, the old vets marched to the plaudits of the crowds that thronged both sides of Surf avenue. With their old-style fire-fighting apparatus gaily decorated, the division represented Nutley, New Jersey; Chatham, New Jersey; Croton on the Hudson, the Exempt Firemen Association of Long Island City, Haverstraw, and the Gravesend Exempt "Volunteer Firemen's Association. After the parade the visiting firemen were the guests of the local men, who escorted them through the various attractions at the resort. One of the automobiles donated by the Coney Island business men, to the American Red Cross, at the French War Exhibit in the Sea Beach Palace, was awarded last night to Alfred En-gelhorst of 244 Pearl street.

WHEN SMITH MEETS SMITH Three Smiths came toegther yesterday at the office of United States Attorney Franco. One of them, John Smith, a stableman, of Belmont Park, L. was forgetful enough on Federal Registration Day not to let the officials list him as an eligible for Undo Sam's National Armv. He was arrested by Policeman Charles E. Smith ot the 278th Tre-cinct of Newtown.

The third Smith in the case is Assistant United Slates Attorney Vine H. Smith. Smith brought Smith before Smith. Mr. Smith, having decided that Smith did right in bringing Smith before him, notified United States Commissioner Louis It.

Bick, who on complaint of Smith held Smith in $500 bail at the request of Smith, for a hearing September 19. WOULD CONSERVE CHICKENS At a meeting of Brooklyn Branch of the United Master Butchers Association of America, held at. 401 Bridge street last right, a resolution was passed favoring the Government's proposal to stop tho killing of calves, spring lambs and spring chickens, in order that they may be conserved for future multiplication. This action was in support of the resolution passed at the meeting of the National Asso-tion held in Minneapolis last month. Tho Brooklyn Branch went on record as striving to sell meat as low as possible during tho duration of the war.

Only a fair margin of profit will be realized. August F. Grimm, national treasurer, addressed the meet-ins on meat conservation, CONNOLLY PROMISES AID. Will Support, Fight Agaiast Wcirfleld Street Dlsposul Plant. The Weirfleld Street Extension and Protective Association scored a point last night when it seccured the support of Borough President Maurice E.

Connolly in the fight to prevent the erection of an ash and refuse disposal plant at Weirfleld street and Wyckoft avenue. Mr. Connolly attended the meeting of the organization, in Bru-gcl's Hall, Weirfleld street, near Wyckoft avenue, and after listening to the grievance told the members that the only way to obtain relief would be to petition the Local Board to place that portion of the street in the restricted zone and then he would have it, passed and presented to the Board of Estimate and Apportionment. Queens County, he said, has a modern incinerating plant at Flushing and Metropolitan avenues, and there is no need for the company which has the contract with the Borough of Brooklyn coming into Queens to dispose of the refuse of that borough. He promised to have removed a fence which shuts off Weirfleld street between the two boroughs, and give the association every aid possible.

Martin Mager, Borough President Connolly's opponent in the primaries, also spoke. Edward Domschke presided. GIRL JUMPS OFF ROOF. After receiving a scolding from her father because sho wanted to go out and not to work in tho house, Chris-tain Kotolfsky, 15 years old, of 418 New Jersey avenue, wont up on the roof and jumped off, yesterday.
