8:50. 11. CAPiTOL Her, Eternttr-" 10:30, The Blueprint Blunder Whenever Helen Gaxton gave a party it was a lulu. Only people who counted would be there. Such front page dandies as Mike Agostino, who ran the numbers racket; Peter Oehl, the dock boss; Sam Kramer, the off-track bigwig; Rocky Perry, the slot machine czar; and such other great guys as Phil the Financeer.

Then, too, every once in a while an out-of-town good-will ambassador would make a showing just to let the boys know that the lads from Chicago sent their regards. Phil was standing alongside the piano, "If ya got something that makes money, then I'm the guy that's got ihr) money to make money. Only it'll cost you 15 percent," he. cTiiickled. Helen looked great in the new pale blue dress she was almost wearing.

"Hey Phil, bet you don't remember an old school chum. I brought this handsome gentleman along with us tonight." "Ya lose, sugar doll, I'd never forget Jack Wilson. Why he's the only guy from our block who went to college, and he was the smartest of the whole gang, too. Make 'hat million yet?" he asked. Jack didn't have to answer.

The shine on his blue serge suit blinded everyone's eyes whenever a light hit it. "Whatja been doing guy?" "Racing stock cars around the country," Jack replied. Phil laughed, as he took a large roll from his pocket. "Here's a connle of hundred. (Jo out and get yourself hushed up and come around to see me tomorrow at 11.

Hey, Helen, let's get this party going," he shouted. Jack was at Phil's office the next morning at the appointed time. It didn't take Phil long to make a decision. "You're coming up to my place in the country this weekend. I want to see yqu drive.

I've got an idea or two that we may be able to put to use. See you Friday!" A few days Inter some of the boys were out on the road watching Jack put a car through its paces. "Pretty good driving, man," exclaimed PhiL On a fixed day the following week Jack met two others. One of them said, "You keep the motor running. When we rush back into the car you go' like blazes.

This souped-up load will take all you got." Ten minutes later the two men dashed into the car. "Get going'." The tar shot out like a rocket. If these lads had ever seen a getaway, this was it. There wasn't any, thing short of a spare ship that could tie up with this trio. "You're certainly a slick stick man," complimented one of the boys.

The report Phil read that night said, "Phil, you finally got yourself a boy. Of ronrse, he never knew that we were testing him and that we hadn't stuck up anyone." The next night found four men in a dimly-lighted room. Phil went over the plans like a fine surgeon. There would be a second getaway car parked alongside after they got of town. Everything was letter perfect.

At 220 on a Friday afternoon Jack sat behind the wheel rf a parked car. Four men entered a bank. One his hand and touched his hat. Jack started the motor. It purred quietly.

Then he heard the shooting. Only one man rushed out. It was Phil. "They got the others, step on it!" he shouted. Hut Jack froze behind the wheel.

Phil tried to lake the wheel away. Then he fainted. They put Phil on an operating table. Four slugs were removed. When he opened his eyes a special FBI agent at his bedside asked, "Want to make a statement?" He barely could be heard.

"Ya can't trust a college man. They don't stand up in our league." Then his lips closed forever. Several men and Jack Wilson walked into the room. The FiU can lie proud of you, Jack Wilson, the way you handled this ob. It's a good thing you remembered you knew Phil Stolz when you were both kids." "Thanks," replied Speeial Agent Wilson." Funny, only a few hours ago I learned the Phil I knew died four years ago." 12:45.
