Cause: President Eisenhower. The Presidential Special, carrying the Eisenhower party from Washington to Ottawa, was routed through Woodside as it switched from the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks to those of the New York, New Haven and Hartford line.

Two minutes later a "pilot" engine ran ahead of the Presidential train as a precautionary measure, and at 10:07 the special thundered through Woodside. Within minutes the Long Island trains began to move. From Woodside the Eisenhower train crossed the Hell Gate Bridge into the Bronx, onto the New Haven main line.

In addition to the four trains halted en route, four others were delayed at Jamaica, thus Involving some Brooklyn passengers. Services Are Held ForWm. Plug, 56 William N. Along with this, the man picked up a portable radio, a tape recorder and Mrs. Botticelli's wrist watch. The super and his wife, Bertha, pleaded with the robber not to disturb the children as he headed for the room where Dorothea and her 10-year-old brother, Anthony lay asleep.

"Don't be afraid, I'm not going to harm her," he was quoted as saying as he awakened Dorothea and ordered her to carry the radio down to his car. The man said he had three children of his own. The man took off his topcoat and draped It over the girl's shoulders. Helplessly, the parents watched as she accompanied him out the door. "Don't follow or try to take my license number," he threatened, "or I'll kill you." Botticelli said he had never seen the man before and could think of no reason why he would want to kidnap the girl, who was described as a slender eighth grade student with long black hair.

At one point, the stepfather said, he addressed the man in Italian and judged from his answer that he was a Sicilian. Botticelli said he appeared to have been "taking the needle." Passengers were barred from entering the station and police pried open the locker.
