SWIFT, Mir. Mis Kimmey on the Air Miss Uva Kimmey hasn't many Young American Baritone NIW YOK OrPICtL 397 fifth Ave. Tlt VOIwfr 5.M9Q Wallace Spence Gets Bad Scare In Medley Stcim Youthful Harold Lathrop threw a icare into Wally Spence last night at the Christmas Fund invitation swimming meet at the Hotel St. George pool. Spence came very near losing the swim, of which he is a record-holder, to a comparatively unknown.

At the finish of the breaststroke and backstroke of the 240 -yard medley, in which both lads were entered, Lathrop, Manual Training High student, swimming under the colors of the Dragon Club, led the New York A. C. star and record-holder by a length. The final third of the medley, freestyle, had both contestants fighting desperately for the lead. However, the gruelling race proved a bit too much for the younger member.

Spence pulled away in the last 20 yards, to win by slightly more than a length. Johnny Wlcklen, swimming unattached, took third In the event, about 15 yards behind Lathrop. Miss Eleanor Holm proved conclusively to the many A. A. U.

officials gathered at the meet that the young Brooklyn miss was good enough to swim In the 1932 Olympics In California. A select field of six young ladles, along with Miss Holm, lined up for the 120 -yard medley event. Swimming with comparative ease, Miss Holm quickly got far In the lead of the field, finishing 20 yards ahead of nor nearest competitor, Miss Joan Mc-Sheehy, New England record-holder for the event, who barely beat out Miss Lisa Llndstrom fqr the place. The three Spence brothers combined their efforts toward establishing a 260-yard medley record, with Wallace starting with the breast-stroke, Leonard doing his part at the. backstroke and Wallace holding the anchor position with the freestyle.
