ALANSON B. i Up Church in A Few Months Founding Congregations la Chosen Life Work of Rev. Francisco Olazabal The Rev. Francisco Olazabal, who recently acquired the old Calvary Baptist Church and renamed It the Brooklyn Temple, has built up within a few months two large congre gations. He has a church In upper Manhattan with from 500 to 1.000 persons in nightly attendance, many them converts from other or drawn in from the street and made into enthusiastic supporters.

In Brooklyn he claims to have from 150 to 200 attending each eve ning and nearly 1,000 on Sunday nights. He preaches In English In Brooklyn, but in Manhattan he preaches almost exclusively in Spanish. Pastor Olazabal is a native ot Mexico and tells the story of being driven out of Mexico by the new laws which prevented his holding religious services. So he moved just across the border and the Mexicans flocked to hear him just the same. He started a number of small churches in California and other places along the border and claims at least 50 of such churches to his credit, all ot which rapidly grew to sufficient size to be carried on without his personal leadership.

He Is now In California and expects to bring his family back to Brooklyn. Mr. Olazabal has an ambitious plan to keep on starting churches in this vicinity until he has the New York area thoroughly covered with evangelistic pentecostal congregations. Mr. Olazabal's pulpit in the Brooklyn Temple has many crutches hanging from it left there by grateful persons, who claim to have been cured through the medium ot prayer in the Temple.

At Jamaica Tabernacle recently, Mr. Olazabal held a series of "healing meetings" where many claimed to have been cured. The former Calvary Baptist Church was dissolved as a corporate body more than a year ago because of financial difficulties and the congregation is now scattered through other churches. The congregation of Mr. Olazabal includes those gathered from the streets representing many foreign groups and also many from the neighbor hood who are not definitely affili ated with a church.

Dr. John Howland Lathrop, pastor of the Unitarian Church of the Saviour, has been appointed one of a commission from the Unitarian denomination to hold a conference with a similar Uni-versalist commission on possible union of the two groups. Dr. Lathrop has been selected by the president of the American Unitarian Association. He will attend the first joint meetings of the commissions on Tuesday and Wednesday at Province, R.

I. If complete union of the two denominations is not possible at this time, the joint commissions hope to bring about a 'closer relationship between the two liberal groups. In Brooklyn the Rev. Cornelius Greenway, pastor of All Souls Unl-versalist Church, is actively opposed to a merger of the two denominations, declaring it to be totally impracticable. The Rev.

Dr. Thomas E. Potterton, pastor of the Universalist Church of Our Father, is also not in favor of complete merging, but has expressed sympathy with the movement to bring about a closely knit relationship as was evidenced by the meeting held recently at the Church of the Saviour by representatives of both groups. As a whole the Unitarian churches have expressed more readiness to enter Into an actual merger than have the Universalist groups. The Rev.
