Coleman du Pont, the former powder manufacturer, from the estate of the late J. Pierpont Morgan, according to a statement issued yesterday by William A. Day, president of the society. General du Pont is the principal owner of the new Equitable Building in Broadway at Liberty street, Manhattan. The trust under which the stock has been voted remains undisturbed, under fie control of the same trustees Judge Morgan J.

O'Brien, former Ambassador Joseph H. Choate and Lewis Cass Ledyard. General du Pont refused to comment to any extent upon the purchase, but 'after confirming it, announced that it was his policy to co without human operators, is being buill here. The decision to replace the telephone girls with machines was taken about a year ago, but owing to the war troubles it has taken some time to put the plan into execution. The new central now being built has been designed to take care of some 6.000 subscribers at once, but has space for exchanging messages between 15,000.
