McCARTHY, COUNTY HOSPITAL AIDE Dr. Walter R. McCarthy, a deputy medical superintendent at Kings Hospital for the last months, and a general practitioner in Brooklyn for more than 25 years, died yesterday of a heart attack. He was 58 and lived at 2725 Church Avenue. Dr.

McCarthy was born in Lawrence, and was graduated from Georgetown Univer. sity in 1924. After serving as an interne in a Boston hospital, he came to Brooklyn, where he started practice. Henry Lankenau, 80, president of the Lankenau Company, and pioneer rayon converter, "the godfather of synthetics," died Friday in Methodist Hospital.

He resided at 19 Fenimore Road, Scarsdale, and had additional homes in Miami, and Monterey, Mass. Mr. Lankenau, born in Manhattan, became a salesman for Butterfield, manufacturer of cottons and satins, 59 years ago, Christine shortly after his marriage to Freeman of lyn. He was with the Butterfield concern for 29 years when he founded his own woolen ness, which he operated until Brooklyn she resided for some years at 5104 7th Ave. Survivors are a sister, Mrs.

Miss Gilmartin, who died Thursday in St. Mary's Hospital, was born in Ireland Oct. 19, 1911. She came to this country 26 years ago and entered St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing here, graduin 1932.

For approximately 15, years she was the staff Holy Family Hospital, Brooklyn, after which she returned to private practice in Waterbury. Her home here was Wolcott St. While working Auto Crash Injuries Fatal To T. F. Conroy of N.

Y. Times West Palm Beach, May 16-Thomas Francis Conroy, 55, of 302 96th Brooklyn, a member of the financial and business news staff of the New York Times, died yesterday in St. Mary's Hospital here. He was injured May 6 in an automobile collision at Juno Beach, la few miles north of this place. His wife, Mrs.

Bessie Weisman Conroy, also was injured in the crash. The couple were on vacation at the time of the accident. Born in New York July 4. busi-1897, Mr. attended De Witt Clinton High School and Columbia University.

His career as a newspaperman started with the Brooklyn Eagle in 1916. He entered the trade reporting field a year later, when he became associated with the Paper Trade Journal and the Trade News Service. After serving in the Army in World War he joined the Fairchild Publications as a reporter on the News Record. Mr. Conroy became a member of the Times staff in 1922, covering the news in primary textile and apparel markets, as well as retailing and foreign trade, for many years.

E. Schlein, 78, Services Today Mrs. Elizabeth Schlein died Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Tampa, a week after the death of her husband, Dr. Julius Schlein, retired Brooklyn physician.

Mrs. Schlein, 78, resided In Brooklyn for 50 years before she and her husband moved to Florida on his retirement in 1946. She is survived by a son.
