Some Soft Spots Best Levels Reached Early. Stocks were Irregular today as operations went ahead In some sections of the list and week-end profit-taking pressure depressed others. Movements ere of larger proportions than Is usual on Saturday and trading was quite active for a time in the early dealings, slowing down later.

The buying was most prominent in the first hour and the selling in the last hour. Utilities and rails were generally higher with several new, hiRh3 for the year in both groups. Most of the issues which advanced showed good resistance to realizing sales. Among the more conspicuous weal; spots were Chrysler, Anaconda and Kennecott, down 2 to 3 points near the end of the day. The opening was active for a Saturday 'market, and determined the pattern, in large measure, for the later movements.

Paramount, neglected of late, opened with a block, up over a point, and subsequently extended ita move to over three points, crossing 70. Ralls and utilities got away to a good start, United Corporation opening with a transaction at a new high since its admission. The Seaman's Bank for Savings, one of the oldest banking institutions in New York City, today celebrated its one-hundredth anniversary.

It enters the second century with assets of approximately and the owner of one of the finest buildings in the Wall Street financial district. This new home of the bank was awarded a prize for the finest structure erected in the financial district in 1926. During the 100 years of Its existence the bank paid 212 consecutive dividends, aggregating $117,000,000, which is in excess of the total resources of more than $114,000,000 now held by the institution. The number of depositors now exceeds 92,000 and total deposits exceed $96,000,000. On May 11, 1929, the Seamen's Bank lor Savings was established by a group of contemporary philan-.

throplc citizens of New York, with only one purpose in mind to encourage thrift among sailors, stevedores, naval officers and officers of merchant ships. While its depositors today include men and women in all walks of life, thousands of accounts still stand in the names of seamen. The first president of the bank was Najah Taylor. The present head of the institution Is Ralph H. Stever.

Montgomery, deputy controller. Kingston Appointment. Announcement is made by Emmet J. McCormack, president of the Klngsboro National Bank, of the appointment of Andreas Stolt as assistant cashier. Mr.

Stolt was formerly connected with the Bank of New York and Trust Company, 48 Wall st in their foreign department, and also with the Empire Trust Company, 120 Broadway. He is at present connected with the Liberty National Bank and Trust Company in New York. The Klngsboro National Bank Is planning to open in their new quarters at 6901 5th ave. within a coupl of weeks. Continental Plan Approved.

Stockholders of the Continental Bank of New York at a special meeting yesterday approved a reduction in the par value of the present shares from $100 to $10 each, an Increase In capital from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 by offering an additional 1.100,000 shares of $10 par at $40 per share on a share for share basis, and the organization of a securities company under the name of the Continental Corporation of New York. Expects Trust Dividend. In the circular on the County Trust Company of New York, Issued by S. Weinberg a suggestion is made that dividends on the capital stock will be inaugurated this year. It is pointed out that the County Trust Company of New York, which opened for business In February.

1926, earned in the 12 months ended March 22, 1929, $46.60 a share based upon the 10,000 shares of capital stock outstanding up to March 15. Since then the capital stock has been quadrupled.
