As is well known, an effort is being made to secure his unanimous nomination and re-elec-tian. This movement is not only by his personal friends but by a large of public-spirited citizens who are acquainted with Justice Callaghan's splendid judicial record. It is my sincere belief that his re-election should be placed above party politics and that every one interested In the fine, humanitarian administration of justice, not only should but will stand behind him irrespective of party. Justice Callaghan has been on the bench for 14 years and during that time I have heard nothnig but praise regarding him, and I consider him among the great and distinguished jurists of our time.

The Provincetown Playhouse moved to the Garrick Theater last night, way uptown on W. 35th ami presented a play by Michael Gold called "Fiesta." Otto H. Kahn was in the audience and Theodore Dreiser, as well rs a number of Communist celebrities.

The occasion was therefore completely auspicious except, if you want to be pernickety about such things, for the play. One had a right to expect something more tremendous, more in the manner of, let us say, the new Russian art from the typewriter of Mike Gold, who is editor of the New Masses and outspoken leader of the proletariat. One had a right to expect a lot of forceful propaganda which would prove that the capitalists were oppressing all the rest of us. Instead, we had the tragedy ot a revolutionary Mexican leader, who goes home to his ancestral ranch imbued with a passion for Yankee efficiency and morality and for reforming the ancestral peons away from their drink and their laziness. Somehow or other, he seems to have learned about reform by reading Tolstoi, and thus it is, perhaps, that we get the Russian influence after all.

It becomes evident, in about the middle of the first act, that the reformer is going to fail, and eventually, sure enough he does.
