At least he's a ghost horse in this respect that out of a cloud of dust which has hidden him heretofore from the eyes of his backers he has emerged a winner in fast company.

And this is the surprise. It's nothing new, that peculiar twist in horse racing. But many and varied are the reasons why Bright Outlook, the name of the steed in question, is causing a how-do-you-do and hubbub smraij the patrons who Band. 4 ISO Wardman Park Hotel Vremiere of ozzpiW al Philadelphia Opera Hoiist To Be Picked Up by Parabolic Reflectors Slohotcski Lectures on Opera Tonight YOU might'call them "searchmikes." HEIGHT OITI.OOK FOR It was at this place that Bright Outlook lived up to his name in furpriMng manm to win at the odds of aO to 1 in the books and 87 to 1 or $176.20 for $2 in the mutuels. And Bright Outlook, a maiden, bat the previous dinners, Shasta Star, The Eagle's Lot and Found Advertisements are broadcant every Tuesday at 12:05 noon and every Friday at 2:30 p.m. over Station WLT11. At Hawthorne, Chicago, he was also last. At Tanforan he was beaten 20 by Salz.

At Agua Caliente on Jan. 27 he was badly beaten by a bunch of maidens. Then, lo and behold. Bright Outlook becomes bright indeed. He meet the hunch of horses named, among which were three stake winners, and beats them easily.

That is why Bright Outlook is being referred to as the ghost horse. First you don't see him, and then you do, thus twisting the saying of the old-time prestidigitators. And no magician of the slijht-of-hand trick ever put over a greater mystery than Bright Outlook. Why don't the Agua Caliente stewards dig and delve into this matter? It promises bright outlook and that's no joke. Mn Pcdio Show.

Stokowski is to give a 15-minute story of the opevH tonight, possibly using a piano it illustrate his remarks. It should i listened to by music enthusiasts. 11 may seal the determination to to the broadcast Thursday, of this opera of realism intensified to the point of fantasy. Dn Re Mi Fa Inarticulate musically, that's wlir.t most people are. And because the majority of these need not be the National Broadcasting Company is to start a series of biweekly broadcasts of what it calls "self-helps in piano playing." By no means, it hastens to assure us for its own protection, does it intend to be piano lessons by radio, yet it will, with proper application, -teach the listener the rudimentary demands of piano playing.

John Erskine, who is an enthusiastic musical amateur as well as being an author and head of the Juillard Musical Foundation, will on the occasion of the first broadcast on March 28 show how simple is the playing of easy melodies and not-too-intricate accompaniments. It is possibly because kcybonrd rharts for the listener are to be used that N. B. C. does not desire to claim that these are piano lessons by air.

That is to be left to the correspondence Fchools and they-laughed-at-me-when-I-sat-down-at-the-piano-but a r-tisements. One of the particularly interesting phases of the race was that the rider, gave his services in that lace gratis. seems that B. Jenkins, the own'T of the horse, had ratner anticipated the improvement the great bi? improvement in the form of Bright Outlook.

He had even broached the subject to Turk ol riding the colt several days be-lore the race. And Turk, knowing that moYiry in the Jenkins bank roll was as scarce as hen's teeth, had d-viarcd that if Bright Outlook were entered to be run in a $500 top and bottom race the cheapest grade of race at the Agua Caliente track-he would mpet opportunity halfway and help toward chuckling victory under the chin by riding Bright Outlook without the customary advance lee of $10. But hen the cot yas entered Turk noted that he was nominated among the list of horses named winneis on other occasions. Don't forget that Bright Outlook up to then was a maiden and had been dallying; far down the stretch where the dust settles after being thrown tip by the hoofs of the winners. And so Turk, feeling that he had been rather Imposed upon, inasmuch as his advice to enter the colt was not fulfilled, refused to ride in)ess the money was forthcoming the jockey fee which must be paid at the scales before a race.

Lacking quality, perhaps, his squad had quantity, probably the largest number of baseball candidates turning out for the ball team of any school in the city. When the call was Issued in February 360 candidates responded.

60 of them for the battery positions. A month and a half of practice has reduced the squad to 45, and if they hit as they have been doing thus far, Coarh Solomon expects them to be "up there or thereabouts." "It all depends on the pitchers, though," he adds. "The team will go as the pitching staff goes." On closer analysis one sees fairly good grounds for Solomon's optimism. The school Is new, with a new student, body, but many of the students are transfers, and not a few of the basf-ball squad have seen service with other institutions. Fred Longo.

the former Erasmus pitcher, who has been out of school for a year due to an operation, is probably the most promising of the hurlers. although Mike Berkowitz and Perry Geffin, basketball and football players, respectively, will aid materially in this department, the latter also playing first base in the games he will not pitch. A voungster by the name of Gettin. former Junior high crack, will also aid materially. Murray Friedman, another former Erasmus player, seems to have the catching job cinched, and Solomon looks upon him as the most promising scholastic catcher he has seen in some time.

While this was taking place, it seems from an authentic account which I have received from that famous place of quirk returns if you're lucky that B. This was in the form of the excuse of "oat money for two or thtee days." And Gorman out of the Likeness of his heart had attended to the largesse. Now. $10 placed on the chance of Bright Outlook in the mutuels at odds of 87 to 1 well, who will say that it was not a bright outlook after the race! Ts it any wonder then that B. Bill Beck, the pitching mainstay of last year's team, which finished in a tie for third place in the Brooklyn division, is back and, although only a fifth termer, is oxpected to handle the more diff)citt games.
