Remus Is Denied Bail Pending Freedom Fight Columbus, Ohio, April 11 (P) George Remus, Cincinnati wife slayer, today was refused bail by the State Supreme Court and must remain 1 in the Lima Hospital for Criminal Insane until further action is taken in his fight for freedom. In refusing Remus bail pending a hearing on an appeal decision of the Third District Court of Appeals at Lima that former "bootleg king" is sane, the Supreme Court also denied a request to vacate the entry of the appeal. The finding of the Third District Court of Appeals that Remus is "sane beyond a reasonable doubt" would have freed Remus had not the State been granted a stay of execution.

London, April 11 (P)-Dispatches from Tokio today indicated that strained relations between Japan and the Soviet might result from the roundup and trial of Communists in Japan. The belief prevailed in the Japanese capital that Moscow was deeply implicated in the alleged revolutionary movement. This movement was described by the Japanese Procurator General as "more serious than the threat of armed force from without." It was not directly charged, however, that the Soviet Government financed the movement, although it was believed that the Communists were furnished with funds from some source in Moscow. Organizations Dissolved. Trials of the persons seized in the roundup have opened or are about to open in four centers in Japan-Tokio, Osaka, Fukuoka and Sapporo.

Origmore than 1,000 persons were arrested, but it was understood that the majority of these have been released. The Ronoto, an Extremist political organization, was ordered dissolved. as well as the Japanese Labor Council and Proletarian Youths League. Those at the head of the Ronoto denied cooperation with Communists. Papers Back Government.

Tokio, April 11 (AP)-The vernacular newspapers, including the opposition organ Hochi, were unanimous today in approving the government's proceedings against the Communists for their intrigue against the existing social order and also applauded the suppression of the Ronoto political organization. The papers considered that wholesale arrests were not a sufficient remedy. They pointed out that the elimination of social evils giving rise to intrigues was needed to prevent the growth and spread of pernicious doctrine. April 11-Robert Ferris, chief of police of Floral Park, and Police Sgt. George Considine were arrested yesterday by order of District Attorney Edwards, charged with grand larceny in the fire degree. were arraigned before Police Justice W. Royden Klein in Floral Park last night. The complainant is Otto Hess of 309 Tulip Floral Park, who says that on March 29 the prisoners took crom his garage a truck with the license numbers 5Z-99-55.

The truck contained $3,000 worth of whisky. Ferris, former Chargone City I Petrie, Denies police officer, denies the charge, but Considine has made a confession to District Attorney, Edwards that involves Ferris and brings in some other names. Considine alleges that Ferris directed him to take the car from the Hess place on a ruse that it was stolen. The numbers of the license plate were falsely reported as 57-55-99 at police headquarters, resulting in a check-up. Considine says under orders from Chief Ferris he took the car and placed it in his own garage.

He said that Ferris knew that it had a large quantity of uncut rye stored in closed compartments. In fact, there were 81 gallons in the containers. He said (Considine) drained off four gallons in glass jugs two for himself and two for Ferris. The balance, he said, he left in the garage. Drove Car to Hotel.

He adds that at midnight a man came to the Considine place and under orders from Chief Ferris drove the car with the liquor to Joseph Hoeffner's Hotel, at Elmont, turning it over to Young Hoeffner. Considine the liquor was then drained out says of the truck, after which he (Considine) drove it empty to his own garage. Next morning, Considine says, he reported to Ferris what he had done. Held Without Bail. When arraigned before Justice Klein, Ferris and Considine were held without bail for the Grand Jury.

Hoeffner, Wicks and Hess, the latter owner of the truck, the other two playing the role of owner and purchaser, were held in $10,000 each as material witnesses. They put up bail. ON EXTORTION COUNT POLICE SEIZE 3 MEN Also Sharged With Empersonating Federal Officers. Three men were arrested last night in front of the Bedford ave. police station by Detectives Lawrence Davidson and Luke McDermott on a charge of extortion and impersonating Federal officers.

McDermott was entering the station when the men passed. McDermott picked up a paper one of them dropped and found the address 115 N. 13th st. written on it. He took the men into the station while Detective Davidson went to the address given and brought back Joseph Gunsher, who identified the men as three who had taken $150 from him a half hour before after threatening to have him locked up for possessing sacramental wine.
