Nick Long Jr. has been on the stage playing small boyB until suddenly two seasons ago he discovered he was five feet ten, and a big boy. Then managers who used to call him up for boy parts in plays and pictures no longer wanted his services. He was no longer the "type." His father, wise in the ways of the theater, advUed him to spend two years of study at Columbia, forgetting the stage. After that he would have "weight" enough to play Juvenile roles.

But young Long had no taste for the classroom. One day a screen director felt sorry for him and took him along to see a private showing of Douglas Fairbanks In "Robin Hood." When he saw Fairbanks Jumping over walls and climbing trees, he wanted to do It himself. He practiced and found he could do it. Katherinc Alexander. Katherine Alexander, who plays a flapper In "Ostriches," the play that conies to the Montauk Theater to-morrow, has Cherokee Indian blood In her veins. She was born in Arkansas and for some reason liked music. So she came to New York to study the violin. "After I got here snd spent most of my money," says she.

"It became evident that I would have to stay much longer than I planned, and in order to stay here longer 1 must earn some sort of livelihood. So I turned about and became teacher Instead of pupil. I tired of this very soon and I looked for something else. "How I landed on the stage? Well, that was a' mistake I mean, of course, that it was unintentional on my part. It all happened at a ball at which everybody that was in any way connected with the theater seemed to be present.
