BOR 8-894, Home Talk, The Battle of 'I' A Sermon by the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Jennings, Rector of Episcopal Church of the Atonement The letter i is very small. in a second. It seems very can be very big and powerful.

a. great deal of trouble. In that it has divided At one time all Christians were like-minded in their belief in Christ, but since the year 325 A. there have been two main division in the Christian world, i.e., those who believe in Jesus as God-man, and those who believe in Him as mere man, a man who was better than the average, perhaps we might say a superman, but, nevertheless, a mere man. The former or Trinitarian belief is held by the three branches of the Catholic Christian Church, namely, the Grecian, Roman and the Anglican of which the Episcopal Church in America is a branch, and the latter, or Unitarian view, the Unitarians.

A presbyter Alexandria, of' Egypt, named Arius, started the row at the Council of Nicea in that famous year of 325. A real battle of words took place and was only settled when the Arians confessed that, in defining their belief in Jesus, they would agree to the use in the creed of certain "Greek word which means "like" but they never agree to the use of a word which means "same." The only difference in the spelling of these two words in the Greek language was the letter i. Immediately; then, the Trinitarians seized upon this word "same" as a sure safeguard of their belief in Jesus as "very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one or the same substance with the Father by Whom all things were made," and incorporated it in the creed which has come down through the centuries known as the Nicene Creed and which is said in all the Apostolic branches of the Christian Church and is the belief of all but the Unitarian Christians. Thus did the little i shake the whole Christian world, and thus it is still shaking it, and will continue so to do since man has freedom of choice in belief. The letter i is even more powerful an troublesome than we have noted above.

The letter i is not merely a letter, but it is also, in its capital form, the personal pronoun I. Als a personal pronoun it is so powerful that it separates man from God. Man is istinguishe from animalsd because he has the INCARNATION FIVE TAKES 6TH GAME Big Red Team Trounces Christ Church, 27-22, at Basketball Incarnation's Big Red team scored its sixth straight Church League victory by defeating Christ Church, 27 to 22. The letter i can be written weak and insignificant, yet 1 The letter i can also cause fact, the letter i is so strong power of thought. This power is a valuable gift for man, but it also very often leads him into trouble. Through the power of thought man is able to be akin to a god. He is able to accomplish miracles such as we behold in the recent inventions of the radio, the airship and in the field of medicine to perform cures which are amazing. But the more powerful man becomes the more apt is man to believe in himself as all sufficient.

History continually repeats itself in bringing to the foreground men who, having gained great power, feel themselves to be, indeed, very gods. The Americans characterize this attitude in the expression, "Me and God." Nero was an excellent example of this, and some past and present rulers of the Old World may be classified under this heading. We have in the story of Soviet Russia an illustration of a whole sect so full of the ego that they would endeavor to put God out of business. This effort on the part of puny men is nothing new and, always meeting with failure, emphasizes the truth in the saying of, Jesus: "The meek shall inherit the earth." Christ by His life and by His death has taught us that a man's greatest power comes only through the of his will that of the Divine will. Jesus had power which no other man has had, yet, in spite of this fact, He always subjected His power to the power of "Him who sent Him." In the Garden of Gethsemane, with the threat of the death of the cross before His mind, He prayed that He might be spared the torture, but, "not as He willed, but as the Father willed." The never troubled Jesus, because He knew the power of submission.

Nowing the constant difficulty man has with Jesus has taught man to pray the Father in Jesus name, for anything, but to always add the prayer, "Thy will, not mine, be done." The Battle of I has been going on through the ages and will con. tinue to go on for each and every one of us until we have learned the lesson of submission, and can honestly pray each time, and mean it, "Thy will be done." PREACHER TELLS 'WHY I'M HAPPY' Rev. Carl 0. Thunberg, pastor. It is entitled "'Why' I Am Happy," and follows: I claim heartfelt merriment No hapless millionaire can buy. I'm glad I'm not the PresidentA grander Kingdom's rule own Il No vaunted honors I maintain. I seek no boasted fame or pelf, Which robs me of the artless joy That walks with unaffected self. pass the windows on display, Where shoppers pause with eyes of greed; Among the things in rich array, Not one of them I really need.

How with the humble cast my lot, How rich in inward graces grow, How here to spend and well be spent Brings bliss which worldlings never know. 5-8773. I dare exult in fearful fallAnd Love did lift me up again! It makes my heart go out to all Whose souls are sick of sins that stain. I'm pleased it rains inside at times.
