3 Joseph B. Eastman, Federal Co-ordinator of Transportation, has decided against taking steps at this time to force consolidation of the Pennsylvania and Long Island railroads. He was requested to bring about consolidation by Ernie Adamson, of Rockville Centre, on Aug. 11. held by the trial judge as sufficient corroboration of the Beuchel pirl's accusation to justify a conviction ot Manowitz. The Court of Appeals held this an error on the part of the trial judge. $10,000 'Demanded' A stir was caused in the courtroom when Manowitz took the stand and testified that Irving G. War-shaw, asociate judge of the City Court, had, as attorney for Miss Beuchel, demanded the payment of $10,000 to the girl and had urged Manowitz to pay the amount "whether you are Innocent or not." Manowitz declared that he had taken the matter to the District Attorney to investigate "this attempt on the part of Tisch and Warshaw to blackmail me." Judge Zimmerman, who had several political tilts with his associate, refered to this testimony in handing down his decision, saying, "we further have testimony that one of the lawyers representing Miss Beuchel demanded a large sum of money from Jacob Manowitz and, after the money was not paid, that Betty Beuchel, in the recommendation of that attorney presented her case through another attorney."
