He was followed by Lyons, who lasted until the third frame. Kelly relieved Lyons.

Willie Amsler hit a terrific drive over the leftftelder's head for a three-bagger. By BRANDON McCALL Home Talk Baseball Leaguers got together here last Saturday for what was probably the final formal meeting prior to the season opening on May 7 and ironed out a few detail matters. Tom Walsh of the local club took high score with 9 points, while Healey and Shaw starred for the visitors. Last week the St.

Only three teams feel it an utter impassibility to play-on any day but Sunday, and the editor, with the fields committee, is working on some plan to take care of all members. At the meeting prior to last week's, the league voted to adopt the Dave-ga baseball and it is this which will be used officially throughout the season, both for schedule and prac lice games. Adoption ot me Dan affords the league a distinct advan- tige. The Davega Company, more- over, is offering the championship trophy, a cup.

which Home Talk expects to be able to exhibit within a short time. A suggestion has come In to name the cup the "Frank Kelly Memorial Cup," in inspiring and affectionate memorv of the late leader of the Shore Road A. C. Frank, by his activity among local sportsmen dur- lng his short life and by his exem- plary standing in the community, has continued to live on in the hearts of his many former friends nd admirers. If the anxiety to ereate a memorial in this form is shared by a great enough number the editor would be pleased to learn about it so that a decision may be arrived at.

As there has been no definite time set for ar.other formal league meeting the members are urged to communicate their feelings and expressions without, delay by phone or mail. There are a coupie oi teams up wun me league mat unvc Meyer (Mike) Pirstenberg of Borough Park, football star and one of the recently appointed assistant coachei at New York University, who was voted "best athlete" in the senior class there according to the annual poll taken among the students. Lawlor Named Captain Of St. Anselm's Team Mike Lawlor was chosen to captain the St. Anselm's Altar Boys' base ball team at a meeting in St.

Anselm's parish hall. Recognized as a smooth-working lnfielder and pitcher this came as no surprise to his friends. Joe Sullivan was elected manager. Jackie Chell, catcher, will assist him. The junior team, in the 10-12-year-old class, 'will be captained by Denny Kerby and managed 'by Joey Chell and Billie Campbell.

0 4 Monte to Meet Bruno Friday on Armory Card Forty rounds of boxinz is the fistic dish Matchmaker Mel Cooke will set before 106th Infantry Armory fans on Friday night. The feature bout will be fought by Fred Monte, former featherweight champion, and Frankie (Kid) Bruno, Greenpoint speedwagon. Monte will be fighting for the right to meet Ted Christie in a champion bout. Bruno has compiled a good string of victories. In another 10-round jamboree, Mike Esposito and Frankie (Kid) Covelli will exchange clouts.

Co-vein is in rare form and vows he will trfke the one-time titleholder over the hurdles. Sammy (Harpo) Fishbeln and Louis (Kid) Santi, claimant of Junior-welterweight honors, will clash in the first ten-spot. A special six-round tilt will show Sklppy Allen and Dominick Nicco and the four-round opener will be fought by Babe Danetti and Pee Wee Marino. Si. Anselm's Altar Boys Whip St.

'Saviour's Nine St. Anselm's Altar Boys, behind the effective pitching of Captain Lawlar, opened Its regular season Sunday afternoon at the Parade Grounds by trimming St. Saviour's Grammar School nine by the score of 15 10. Lawlar allowed only three hits for the six innings he worked. Cruise, who succeeded Lawlar, was hit very hard and timely.

The score; St. Saviour's a 1 0 0 0 0 3 4 2 10 St. Anselm's 0 8 1 0 0 7 1 0 I 15 kun hrairif from for a WeeKiMa e.ua l' Sport Static By WILL WYNNE I have been given to understand Marty Postal, deposed matchmaker of the 106th InTantry Armory, has decided not to run fights in opposition to the Bedford Ave.

drill-shed. It was Marty's intention to run at the Ice Palace on Friday niahts. Whoever made Martv see the light certainly deserves plenty ot praise. While I will not say the Ice Palace is not suited for boxing, I will say that two clubs, located on the same street, cannot function on the same night and expect to show a profit. If Marty does open at the Ice Palace and I believe he will it would be wise for him to hold his show early in the week.

Postal must remember that fans patronized the Armory because of the high-class show he presented and not because Postal was behind the affair. Even Beezy Thomas, official Madison Square bootblack, can bring the payees in if he gives them something for their money. Postal made more than $200,000 for the Bedford Ave. club in a little over five years. Whether Mel Cooke, his Successor, can nnnrnnrh that flgure hard t0 for one iv wb uEincaniuu, Oct only, Cooke will have to devote plenty of time to building up attractions.

Postal had Nick Palmer and Eddie Whalen to help him out of his tough times. Who will Cooke depend on to "carry" him until he gets things running smoothly? COOKE'S TASK Let's take a look at the talent Cooke has to work with. Palmer is on his last legs. There isn't a finer personality than Palmer and much as I dislike saying It 1 don't think he will be pushing leather six months from now. When you least expect it some youngster is going to come along and pin Nick's ears back.

Speaking of Nick reminds us of the great fights he has taken part in. In 10 years I've never seen another boxer pull a fight out of the fire the way Nick does. There's a fellow whose courage alone is enough to break his opponent's heart. To get back to the armory stars, aside from Nick Cooke has no one he can bank on to bring out the cash customers. Paolo Villa is a good "club fighter, but could hardly be called a good box-office attraction.

Then there's Louis (Kid) Santi and Lew Monte, preliminary youngsters. It will be a year before they will be fighting star bouts. Frankie (Kid) Bruno is a fair drawing card but too many defeats will put an end to his popularity. As for Eddie (Kid) Whalen, I don't think he can draw a wooden quarter. All In all it's a pood lot.

MORE BOXING Al Torre is making ready to open Fort Hamilton in a few weeks. Torre will also experience plenty of trouble staying out of the red. A dearth of attractions will make his task harder than it was last year and the year before. Ole Nesheim could always be depended on to draw the payees but Ole is in Norway and won't be back for some time. Al used Ole every other week at the Fort last year, and at the end of the season was able to show a nice profit.

Here's hoping you enjoy another banner year, Al. a a The weather being what It Is we drove out to Dyker Beach Park the other day to see what progress the workers had made.
