7 Mr. Hoover was naval constructor at the Brooklyn Navy Yard at the time of the destruction of the Maine. He retired from active service ten years ago. Three sons and five daughters survive him, two of whom, Mrs. Samuel S.

Whitehouse and Mrs. Stephen W. Dodge, reside in this borough. Peed Mr. Charles Fulton Street, September thirtieth.

Mr. Peed, who was in his seventy-eighth year, was formerly manager and part owner of the old Pierrepont House and until his retirement from active business, four years ago, was interested in the. management of the Mansion House. Two daughters survive him, Miss Emma Peed, with whom he lived at the Touraine; and Mrs. Theodore Newman of 302 Park Place.
