15 Clubs and Clubwomen BROOKLYN LIFE at the luncheon. A political monologue was given by Mrs. Francis Rogers and short messages of greeting from Miss Frances Perkins, the newly appointed Industrial Commissioner, Mrs. Charles Dana Gibson, and Mrs. Martha Bensley Bruere were read.

1 4 "On, rpHE WOODMAN CHORAL CLUB, Mrs. Clark J- Burnham, president, held its annual Presidents' Day on Friday at The Neighborhood Club, 104 Clark Street, and it was a most enjoyable affair. There was a musical program given by Edward Kinsey, baritone, and Master Walter Lipper, pianist, a young pupil of the Music School Settlement, who displayed a fine technique as the result of excellent training. Miss Elsie Kissam Easton completed the afternoon's pleasure with her delightful reading of poems and a short story by George A. Birmingham.

Graham, Flatbush W. C. T. U. THE CHAPTER ROOM of the Matinecock Chapter, D.

A. R7 on the second floor of the House of the Weeping Beech, Fox Lane, Flushing, L. is taking on an authentic early American atmosphere. On Friday of last week, the Chapter in monthly session, inspected the room which has been papered with a charming facsimile of an early Colonial paper, the woodwork being painted an artistic light green. Ruffled white Colonal curtains are to be hung, and the room will be furnished with authentic early American furniture loaned by the members.

Meanwhile, pending completion, the Chapter met on the ground floor, Mrs. Russell Coutant, Regent, presiding over a good attendance. Mrs. Ada Munyon opened with the reading of the New Year letter sent out to the Chapters by the President-General, Mrs. Grace Brosseau.

Mrs. George Ketcham, chairman of the Committee on Historic Educat'on read a delightful article on historic flasks, pointing out how the stirring history of revolutionary and post-revolutionary times was recorded through this medium. She described flasks in the collection of Harry Hall White bearing the portraits of De Witt Clinton, Benjamn Franklin, Washington, Andrew Jackson, Lafayette and others. Miss Ruth Deakins, of the department of history, Fox-wood school, Flushing, related in a dramatic and colorful narrative the history and contributing causes of the revolution. Miss Mary Childs, chairman of the committee on the.

Correct Use of the Flag, read a letter from Mrs. Brandt, chairman of the National Committee for the Correct Use of the Flag, D. A. R. The chapter will hold a food sale on January 26th at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs.

Theodore Averlll, 44 Beech Street, in aid of chapter funds. At the close the members adjourned for tea. The table was decorated with a basket of roses and tall candles in silver holders. THE CIVITAS CLUB will hold its next meeting at the Neighborhood Club on Wednesday, January 23rd. The speaker of the day will be Joseph Wood Krutch, whose subject will be "The Modern Temper." Mr.

Krutch's article in The Atlantic Monthly for August, "Love, the Life and Death of a Value," was probably the most discussed magazine article of the last year. It was followed by others on the emotional characteristics of our time. These are to be published next month in book form under the title of his lecture mentioned above. THE ADELPHI ACADEMY ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION will hold a card party at the Leverich Towers Hotel on Friday, January 25th. Mrs.

Brower Brundage is chairman of the committee in charge which included Miss Elizabeth Halstead, Mrs. I. Harold Spencer, Mrs. Walter Ritts and Mrs. George Dannemann.

The programme consisted of a Shakespearian recital by Edith Wynne Mattison. The regular monthly business meeting was held on Wednesday, January 9th, at the, Brooklyn Woman's Club.

Mrs. John O'Mara, Chairman of the Ways and Means and her committee, have completed plans for a bridge to be held February 6th at the Pouch Mansion. HT HE BERKELEY ALUMNAE held their second A social meeting of the season at the home of Mrs. Stephen Valentine, at 62 Eighth Avenue. Mr.

Joseph Mathieu, tenor, sang a group of delightful songs, accompanied by Mrs. John Mottola. He is from the Old Dutch Reformed Church in Flatbush. Ruel Smith and Mrs. T. Bond Holland. BROOKLYN CIRCLE of the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae has just announced, through Miss Katherine F. O'Connor, its regent, that its next important event, following the reception to Miss Dorothy Willmann last week, will be a card party.

This is to be a benefit and will have the attraction of being on shipboard. It is to take place on the afternoon of Thursday, January 24th, a week from this coming Thursday, between the hours of two and six. By courtesy of the Lloyd Sabaudo Line, the Italian steamer Conte Biancatnano, which lies at Pier 95, foot of West 5th Street, Manhattan, has been donated for the afternoon for the Circle. This benefit card party promises to be a very large and profitable one. Its committee chiefs are to be Mrs.

Charles Roehl. Mrs. William R. Lasher has charge of the program which will be announced later. THE WOMEN'S CITY CLUB of New York, 22 Park Avenue, entertained three of its most distinguished members at a luncheon in honor of Mrs.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mrs. Herbert H. Lehman and Mrs. John T.

Pratt on Wednesday, January 9th, at the Hotel Biltmore, at 1 o'clock. All three women came into added prominence in public affairs at the last election; Mrs. Roosevelt as wife of the new Governor of New York State, Mrs. Lehman as wife of the new lieutenant-governor, and Mrs. Pratt as newly-elected congresswoman from New York State.
