NEWMAN Dr. Robert Pettit, 12 Monroe Place, June 19th. Dr. Newman, head of the oldest dry goods establishment in Brooklyn, T. A.

and L. F. Newman, founded ninety years ago by his father and uncle on the site at 305 Fulton Street which it still occupies, passed away early Tuesday morning after a protracted period of ill health. He was the son of the late Theodore A. and Elizabeth Pettit Newman and a descendant of families who figured most prominently in the affairs of Brooklyn when it was little more than a village and who were among the earliest communicants of old St.

Ann's Church, the first Anglican church to be established in Brooklyn. His great grandfather on the maternal side was Simeon Pettit of Huguenot descent, who was born in Hempstead, L. where' the family originally settled, but came to Brooklyn early in life, married into the Van Nostrand family and was one of the leading citizens of Brooklyn in the early part of the last century, Dr. Newman was educated for the medical profession and was a graduate of the Brooklyn Polytechnic and Columbia University, but through the death of his the management of the store devolved upon him after a brief experience as a medical practitioner. For some years prior to the death of his wife in 1925, Dr, Newman lived at the Hotel Bossert, but since then he has made his home with his sister, Miss Louise M.

Newman, at 12 Monroe Place, whence she and her sister, the late Grace Newman, moved from the old home of the family on Washington Street, they being almost the last of the old residents of that once fine residential thoroughfare to leave it. Like the rest of his family, Dr. Newman was a lifelong member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. He was charming, kindly man and will be greatly missed by the many who knew him. He is survived by his sister, Miss Louise Newman, a niece, Mrs.
